I'm pronouncing it "In-thrust-ro-tank"

The nuke bar & the blimps are VERY welcome, but the tank feels sluggish, like it doesn't accelerate a quickly enough. There's also a delay between touching the ground and the combo registering, but that helps keep the numbers high, so I'm nor complaining.

One nitpick: shouldn't the rain look like it's falling diagonally at these speeds?

The sand helps you sometimes.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and and assume it's intentional, but on a number of levels I was using the sand as an elevator when I could have beaten them with jumping (if I had tried like 20 times). Once I realized the flying spikes won't fly through sand, it got even easier.

So, 2/3 frantic grinding, 1/3 patience? Not actually a bad way to go--again, assuming you intended it.

Good idea, executuion needs improvement.

Giving us a limited number lives is one of the cardinal sins of puzzle games.

The puzzle-platformer section is incredibly easy, then the the platform-puzzler becomes instantly frustrating as you can barely get one piece of the castle laid before you have to switch back and jump on a freakin' goomba.

This is fun, but it feels more like slapping Tetris onto Mario than a true integration of the two, if that makes sense.

Nicely coded, not enough variety

Firstly, music is sweet, the grayscale adds to the atmosphere of decay, and the game is wildly addictive.

However there're only the five set pieces, and while you combine them to make a pretty challenging game, the only way it gets harder is that it getsfaster--and even then you can just run into some boxes to slow down.

Were you to make a sequel, I'd recommend incorporating some parkour moves with corresponding set pieces, and (dare I say) a plot.

Glub glub

Nice to see an original movement system, and your story is at least fresh in its presentation, but whoever designed level 13 needs therapy because he or she is a sadist.

acrazycanadian responds:

But level 13 is so cute and innocent, like a cuddly little kitten... that's undead and has rabies and is part nuclear bomb.

How can you not love it?

Orpheus?

Didn't see that coming.

VERY good 1st game, though "challenging" and "frustrating" are two different things. I'm thinking specifically of a level in the middle involving 4 checkerboard platforms & 2 breakaway platforms which took me about a dozen tries to get past.

And maybe you could have changed the ending? I know in the story he looks back and loses his wife again, but in-game that's pretty off-putting.

"Balanced and reasonable?"

If this is balanced and reasonable then I shudder to think what the original was.
I understand what you're trying to do here, but if you're going to make us replay the same level over and over again you need to vary up the gameplay within the level. Otherwise it just becomes a time-waster, and the music's too good for this to ba a casual game.

Go get her!

On the easy setting it's more of an interactive story than a game--AND THAT'S GREAT! The graphics, though tiny, make it an extremely stylish interactive story. The music makes it an extremely stylish interactive story with one kick-ass beat, and, in my humble opinion, about the most rhythmic gaming I've seen in flash. Add to this the fast pace and a paradoxically well-characterized hero, and you get . . . well . . . 10/10!

Can you make an option . . .

. . . to revert to the CTRL to fire & SPACE to shoot controls? The switcheroo keeps tripping me up.

Otherwise, so much nostalgia attached to this game, thanks for submitting!

Please . . .

. . . someone needs to make a version for graphing calculator, and this seems like this would translate well.

More entertaining than one might think at first, mainly because it's not just a puzzler, it's more of a gadget, and the sandbox is ridiculously entertaining when one starts writing words in it.

Wow I need to upload some stuff when I get the chance.
